Artak Beglaryan Participated in the International Conference of the European Ombudsman Institute

On November 4, Human Rights Ombudsman Artak Beglaryan participated in the international conference of the European Ombudsman Institute in Innsbruck, Austria, dedicated to the role of the ombudsmenin strengthening democracy and civil society.

As a full-member of the organization, A. Beglaryan took part in thematic discussions presenting observation and questions. Particularly, the Ombudsman raised the issue of international isolation of non-recognized states, stressing that it has a negative impact on strengthening democratic institution. He underlined that in spite of provisions enshrined in the international documents, the international community opposes the principle of universality of human rights.

In this regard, Joseph Siegele, the secretary general of the institute said that his organization believes that human rights have no borders. He expressed conviction that inclusion contributes to human rights protection and strengthening of democracy.

 A. Beglaryan also raised questions on global issues, particularly the latest trends in government-civil society communication, media transformation.

Within the frames of the conference, the ombudsman changed views with the ombudsmen of different countries and regions discussing with them a number of issues of common interest.
